Sophomore Alicia Statler led all scorers with 21 points. She added five rebounds.
"Alicia really hurt (Northwestern) when they tried to play man-to-man," said Jeff Dittman, head coach. "That is why we saw so much zone defense throughout the ball game. They just didnt have an answer for (Statler). Alicia has been a big part of us being where we are at. Statler was one of five Broncos to reach double digits scoring."
On senior day, three seniors reached double digits. Heather McKeon had 17 points, while shooting 5-of-9 from three-point range. All-America candidate Lindsay Ducey had 12 points and eight rebounds. Kim Faimon added 11 points.
This is the second top five team the Broncos have defeated in the past week. HC defeated Briar Cliff last weekend. The Broncos jumped out to a 46-32 halftime lead.
"In the first half, you saw us play as good of basketball as we have played all season," Dittman said.
Hastings shot .500 from the field and .462 from three-point range. With the win Hastings (25-3, 15-1) clinched the regular season GPAC title, guaranteeing the team home-court advantage throughout the conference tournament. The win was the Broncos fourth straight. Hastings will travel to Blair, Neb. Tuesday night to face Dana College. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
