HC's Lynn Farrell Arena was home today to an intense game between the HC women's basketball team and the Briar Cliff Chargers. The Broncos followed the lead of seniors Lindsay Ducey and Rachel Isherwood to win 70-64.

Senior Heather McKeon also led the Broncos. HC was one point up from BCU in the final two minutes after BCU's Liz Grider made two points. With that time, the play could have gone in either team's favor, but McKeon scored three points with 30 seconds left in the game.

McKeon was also fouled twice, at 18.5 seconds and 4.1 seconds left. McKeon's free throw record was 90%, and remained strong with two shots knocked in for HC each time McKeon stepped to the line.

Isherwood stepped up to lead the offensive in the second half, though she has typically been the leader for the Bronco defensive. She was pulled out of the game after her fourth foul, but was brought back in at 4:11 with the score tied and the Broncos under pressure.

Thirty seconds of play and Isherwood fouled out of the game after McKeon made three, bringing the score to 62-59.

Ducey had a total of 25 points for HC. She knocked in nine points during the first half, slightly less than half of HC's 23 at halftime. BCU had 31 by half.

Ducey helped increase the Bronco confidence at the beginning of the second with a three point shot only 20 seconds in. She made another two points at 17:10 and continued to contribute with two point shots and free throw attempts to the end of the game.

The first half was a disappointment to HC fans as #1 Broncos fell behind to #4 Chargers. BCU pressured the Broncos but were challenged by the HC comeback during the second half.

The game was initially one-sided, but the gain in Bronco confidence made every second count. The lead in the second half was turned over repeatedly.

One piece of the game missing was the pep band. The HC music program has been hosting high school students from around Nebraska for the weekend for the HC Music Honor Festival, one of the top recruiting tools for the program.

HC will play No. 8 Doane at 6 pm on Feb. 10 at Hastings.
