If you are reading this column, odds are that you live in Nebraska. If you live in Nebraska, odds are you have become accustomed to the sporadic weather conditions in our great state.
But this winter has been one to remember. Or forget, depending on how you feel about the snow.
Let's explore the joys that come along with the wintery weather. I mean, who doesnメt love snow...and ice...and sleet?
First, the thing Nebraskans look the most forward to (I'm sure of it) are the glorious pot holes. Now, we know to expect them each year, and yet they never seem to get any easier to accept.
Pot holes aren't too hard to handle after, say the first or second snowfall, but after the fifth and sixth they get annoying.
There is a point that it gets to be a little ridiculous. And that point is when our roads begin to look like The Jolly Green Giant, King Kong and Paul Bunyan played a round of putt-putt on our streets and didnメt fill in the divots.
OK, so if it isn't the pot holes you've all been looking forward to, then it must be the road conditions.
Being from Omaha, I find it safe to assume that the snowplow drivers must not really like their jobs.
Hastings however, does a bit of a better job. More often than not, itメs safe to assume you can back out of your driveway on the first try without getting stuck. That may be because Hastings is much smaller than Omaha, but hey, the job gets done.Well, if it wasn't the potholes you've been waiting for, or the road conditions, it has to be the below freezing temperatures.
Getting bundled in 11 layers is fun, right? OK, maybe not so much, but walking from the office to your car and your face going numb has got to be a winner.
Scraping car windows has definitely got to be one of the greatest hassles from the weather. I strongly believe every car should come equipped with robotic arms of some sort to scrape the windshield and windows so we don't have to nearly lose our fingers to frostbite doing so.
So if you're not waiting in anticipation for the potholes, the road conditions, or below freezing temperatures, then it has got to be shoveling you've been waiting for.
Those who have decided to invest in snow blowers are most likely hunted down by those who have not. This may be because shoveling snow is not necessarily a highly accepted form of exercise.
The winter season may seem rather tedious and grueling, but there is one privilege that comes along with it; snow days.
Snow days are possibly the one benefit that comes from the wintery weather. I mean, what other weather do we get days off for? Rain days? Wind days? Having a day off for any other weather doesnメt seem too likely.
It seems that we never get too old to enjoy a day off from work, or school, to stay home and play in the snow, or stay on the couch all day with a cup of hot chocolate.
After exploring all the possible reasons one would have to look forward to snowfall and freezing cold temperatures, I think Iメve finally got it. What you've all been patiently waiting for this winter season (drum roll) is...THE END!
