Around 10 p.m. Public Safety found the crash bar on the door of HSU rooms A and B hanging from the door.
After entering, they found the computer near the front of the room disassembled. Public Safety officials called the police, who determined that internal components of the computer were missing.
On two other occasions custodians have found printed pornographic materials near the same computer and pornographic Web sites being displayed on the screen, according to Kelly Weseman, director of Public Safety.
All the vandalisms are under investigation by the police. Larry Thoren, Hastings police chief, refused to comment on the on-going investigation.
"We don't think the recent vandalisms are tied to anyone within our (HC) community," said Dr. Ron Chesbrough, vice president for student affairs.
The vandalisms have caused the recent cutback in hours at HSU. The building now closes at midnight. Previously the hallway to the workout facility and computer lab was open 24/7.
"Our initial reaction was to tighten up the hours until we had a better sense for what was happening," Chesbrough said.
However, the cutbacks are not permanent.
"Right now there is no timetable to return to regular hours," Chesbrough said. "We might go another week, but we want to go a period of time without any incidents."
In reaction to the recent occurrences, maintenance began installing security cameras in HSU. Installations are expected to be finished by the end of the week, according to a maintenance worker.
"We have asked for increased vigilance by the staff," he said. "Public Safety patrols the building more frequently, and we have asked our staff to walk around and make their presence more known - things like checking doors to make sure they are not propped open," said Pat McCauley, director of student activities.
