Bears tear down Vikings

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- No. 4 seed Grand View University took on No. 3 seed Shawnee State University during the quarterfinals of the NAIA Womens Basketball National Tournament. The Bears defeated the Vikings 75-55.

Grand View knocked out No. 1 seed Hastings College in the second round of the tournament yesterday. After Shawnee won the tip off, the game remained close with the score 14-20, Shawnee, at 10 minutes.

The Vikings concentrated most of its shooting inside the paint, dishing the ball to freshmen Amy Vos and Jennifer Jorgensen. Shawnee stayed behind the arc and had scored four 3-pointers with six minutes remaining in the half.

Shawnee led, 40-26 at the half.

The Bears controlled the rest of the game and did not give Grand View an opportunity to close the gap. With 10 minutes left in the second half, Shawnee led 52-39. Senior forward Alison Meyer scored 24 points for Shawnee and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Mallory Albers added four assists.

Grand View freshman Jennifer Jorgensen scored 16 points and junior Danielle Ballard had eight rebounds. Freshman Brittany Peterson had three assists.

The Vikings will move to the semifinals on Monday at 6 p.m. They will play the winner of the Indiana Wesleyan University and College of the Ozarks game which is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m.
