Cardinal Stritch upsets No. 2 Davenport University

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Senior guard Michelle Stelloh scored a game high 27 points and led the No. 4 seed Cardinal Stritch University to a win over the No. 1 tournament seed and No. 2 nationally ranked Davenport University.

The Davenport Panthers took the lead early, after junior Jeannie Closson connected on a 20-footer. Stelloh responded with a 3-pointer in the next possession. Both teams exchanged the lead several times until tying up at 8-8. Stelloh hit two consecutive 3-pointers and gave the Wolves a 17-11 lead.

The Panthers responded by putting together an 8-0 run, bringing the score within two points at 19-21. The Wolves were able to maintain the lead until Carrie Grubius hit a 3-pointer with 3:01 remaining in the half. Davenport gained the lead at 25-24. The Panthers held the one point advantage and headed into halftime 36-35.

Cardinal Stritch came out strong in the second half and pieced together a 17-5 run which was capped off by 3-pointer from senior Brittany Daum. Cardinal Stritch lead 52-41. Stelloh continued to connect and hit 6 of 10 shots. She lead the Wolves to an 86-74 upset victory.

Daum hit 5 of 7 three-pointers and finished with 19 points. The Wolves shot 52 percent from the three point line. For Davenport, Closson scored 13 points and junior Kristi Boehm finished with 12.

Cardinal Stritch will play against Briar Cliff College at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
