Players lead in statistics

First round tournament action concluded late last night, and there have been several championship caliber performances by teams, as well as individual players.

No. 1 Hastings College center Lindsay Ducey led all players at the tournament in scoring after the first round with a 32-point performance against University of Maine at Fort Kent. Ducey went 12-17 on field goals and 4-4 from beyond the arc.

Indiana University Northwest's Sharon Houston tallied the second highest point total with 26 against Northwestern College.

Nicole Gall from College of Idaho trails Houston in scoring. Gall scored 24 points against Cardinal Stritch University.

Aquinas College's Joslyn Narber scored 23 points against Saint Francis.

College of the Ozarks', Morgan Smith, Cedarville University's Alison Lemon and Briar Cliff College's Morgan Brown are tied for fifth with 22 points each.

In addition to total points, total rebounds were recorded. Cardinal Stritch University's Renet Skorusa led with 16 rebounds during the Wolves first round win against College of Idaho.

Houston grabbed 15 boards and College of the Ozark's Emily Bell grabbed 14.

Lemons and Briar Cliff's Megan Salcedo each had 13 rebounds.

Saint Francis's Chanell Ridley, Ducey and Cedarville's Aubrey Siemon each tallied 12 rebounds in first round action.

There was a three-way tie for the lead in assists. Grand View's Micah Reed, Hastings' Kim Faimon and Black Hills' Janna Schriber each had seven assists.

Close behind them is Minot's Ari Hendrix and Iowa Wesleyan's Anna Jones, who each had six assists. Aquinas' Taelor Sanders, Ozark's Kayla Messick, Cedarville's Lemon and Lydia Miller, Davenport's Kristi Boehm and Holy Names' Lesley Vodicska each dished out five assists in their first round contests.

As a team, College of the Ozarks took the first round crown after hitting 27 of 51 field goals, just under 53 percent.

Hastings College, Northwestern and Cardinal Stritch each shot over 48 percent from the floor.

Shawnee State shot 47 percent in the opening round, followed by Iowa Wesleyan College with 45 percent of their field goals.

Hastings, Ozarks, and Northwestern swept the three-point statistics, each hit 56 percent. Cedarville was next with 47 percent and Shawnee State with 42 percent.

Defensively, Abby Ballman from Shawnee State led the way with eight steals against tournament newcomers Haskell Indian Nations, in the opening round.

Indiana University's Houston had a first round high five blocks in their opening loss against Northwestern College.
