SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- 12 points or less separated the Jamestown Jimmies and Iowa Wesleyan Tigers score, as the Tigers defeated the Jimmies, 72-60 in their second round game of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament.
After a back and forth first half, Iowa Wesleyan, which is making its fourth appearance at the NAIA national tournament, led 31-30. The Tigers' biggest lead of the half was seven, 16-9.
Jamestown shot 38 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
Each team scored 18 points in the paint during the first half.
The Jimmies, who won the Dakota Athletic Conference, forced 11 turnovers in the first half and committed eight. Jamestown scored zero points off the 11 turnovers. Jamestown senior Giuli Varriano led the Jimmies with 15 points.
Midway through the second half, Wesleyan, which won the Midwest Collegiate Conference, started a 12-2 run. The team went from being down three points to being up nine points, all in a five minute span.
Tiger juniors Melanie McCreight and Jessi Beachy each had 19 points to lead Wesleyan.
