Cardinal Stritch sinks Idaho

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Cardinal Stritch came into the game on a 14-game winning streak, looking to make it 15. After several lead changes early in the game, Liz Neitzel converted a breakaway layup, giving Cardinal Stritch an 8-3 advantage. The Wolves started to add to their lead, but Katie Strunk hit a 3 pointer to bring Idaho back within 3, 15-12. The Wolves responded and soon were up by 7 after another breakaway layup by Angela Gray. Michelle Stelloh then connected beyond the arc to extend the lead to 10.

The Coyotes couldn't ever get back into the game, eventually falling to the Wolves by a score of 79-64.

The Wolves continued to add to their lead as the Coyotes committed three straight turnovers and found themselves down 31-17 with 8:49 left in the first half. The Coyotes managed to cut the lead by a field goal in the final minutes of the half, and went into the locker room down 43-31.

Cardinal Stritch continued to control the game, starting the second half with a 6-2 run, but the Coyotes responded with a 6-0 run of their own, bringing the score to 49-38 with 16:14 remaining in the half. The Wolves regained the momentum and attained their largest lead of the game when Neitzel hit a backdoor layup, giving them a 63-45 lead with 10:08 left in the game.

Neitzel led the Wolves with 20 points, followed by Michelle Stelloh with 17. As a team, Cardinal Stritch shot 48 percent from the field, converting on 31-64 field goals. The Coyote's scoring attack was led by Nicole Gall, who tallied a game-high 24 points in the contest.

Cardinal Stritch will play No. 1-seeded Davenport at 8:45 p.m. on Friday at the Tyson Events Center in the second round of the tournament.
